Pan Protector Pattern

Level: Easy

Materials:

Cotton yarn (I used cones of peaches n cream walmart)

5mm crochet hook

Tapestry needle

Scissors

Stitches:

Double Crochet, Single Crochet, Slip St,

The pattern starts as a soft corner solid hexagon then webadd a section to each side to create the flaps.

Hexagon:

Rd 1.

Begin by chaining a magic circle or chain 4.

Chain Start:

Ch 3, dc 12 times into 3rd chain from hook.  Slip stitch to top of 1st dc.  Chain does not count as stitch

Magic Circle Start:

Create magic circle, chain 1, dc 12 in circle.  Pull tight.

Slip stitch into top of chain 3 or 1st dc.

Rd. 2

Chain 2, dc 3x in same space as chain 2, chain does not count as stitch.   Corner made.  Place stitch marker into middle dc.

***In next stitch, 2dc

In next stitch, 3 dc.   2nd corner made. Mark middle dc with stitch marker***

Repeat around.

There should be 6 corners and 6 sides (the stitches with 2dc.  Row should end with 2dc in last st.   slip stitch to top of 1st dc.

Rd. 3

Chain 2, place a dc in the same stitch as ch2.

In the next stitch, remove st marker and place 3dc, place st marker in middle dc.

***Dc across to next st marker, remove st marker and place 3dc.  Place st marker into middle dc.**  Repeat around.  Join last dc with dc in st with ch2.

Repeat round 3 till hexagon is as big as desired.   This will be a soft hexagon with soft corners to ensure they fit in the bottom of round pans.

Once hexagon is the correct size of pan, the hexagon should lay flat in the bottom of the pan and stop just before the curve of the pan bottom.

DO NOT CUT YARN.

Turn and SL ST LOOSLEY to corner stopping at st before st marker.

Remove st marker & follow flap instructions.

Flaps:

Chain 2 in corner dc of row below, dc in same st. Dc across hexigon side to the next corner into st with st marker, remove st marker, ch 2, turn.

*Dc across, chain 2 & turn.*

Repeat till flap is as long as side of pan.

(i like to go a row above pan edge for a bit more protection)

End flap on row facing next side.   Slip stitch down edge of flap LOOSLEY, to corner stitch.

To start remaining flaps off flap 1:

Dc in corner next to dc from last flap, Dc across, ch2, turn

Repeat flap directions till you have 6 flaps.

Once all flaps are complete, sc around entire edge of flaps, with 3 sc in each flap corner,  and 3sc together over the inner flap corners.
